Resistant grape variety

What is a resistant grape variety?

Nowadays, one vine species reigns supreme in the French wine world: Vitis vinifera. However, its vulnerability to vine diseases, such as mildew and powdery mildew, poses a major challenge. These diseases require treatments, which compromise the production of quality wines and have negative repercussions for both the soil and consumers.

In light of this reality, a crucial question arises:
How can we reconcile wine quality and environmental respect, while avoiding the use of chemicals?
The answer: resistant grape varieties.
They are also referred to as hybrid grape varieties or PIWI.

The goal?

For more than half a century, research has been tackling this issue by crossing different vine varieties. The goal is to preserve the quality of Vitis vinifera, while introducing natural resistance to mildew and powdery mildew. This innovative approach is based on crossing existing grape varieties with pollen from vines that are naturally resistant to diseases.

The result of these efforts is the creation of these resistant grape varieties, now numbering around twenty. This approach represents a true innovation in the wine world, offering the possibility of producing wines with remarkable uniqueness.

We are proud to be part of this evolution, cultivating 16 hectares of vines, 14 of which are dedicated to these hybrid grape varieties. This approach places our estate within a dynamic of innovation and respect for nature, in order to offer you unique and authentic wines.
